The Grounds
The Grounds are the reason guests stay on the property instead of just sleeping here between outings. There's a gas grill, a fire pit with chairs around it and free refreshments in the outdoor living room. There's a koi pond and a garden with seating tucked into it. There's a lawn with games and room for a dog to stretch. And there's are two trails through a 128-acre preserve. You can do a whole weekend here without starting the car. A lot of guests do exactly that.

The Yard
The Yard is the social heart of the property.
A fire pit anchors it, with chairs pulled around for the evening and free refreshments in the outdoor living room. There's a lawn for the dog, a few games for the in-between hours, and seating spread out enough that you can have the place to yourself even when you don't.

Mornings, it's coffee and quiet. Afternoons, it's a book in the shade. Evenings, it's the fire and whoever's around. Nothing programmed, nothing scheduled — just somewhere good to sit.

The Garden
The Garden is the quiet corner. A koi pond sits at the center of it, with seating arranged around the water and plantings that change through the year. It's where guests end up when they want a few minutes to themselves — the morning regulars with their coffee, the couple who came for the anniversary, anyone who likes the sound of water over the sound of a television.

It photographs beautifully, which is why it shows up in so many of our guests' trip pictures. But mostly it's just a good place to sit and not do much.

The Trails
The back opens onto the Wildflower Ridge Preserve — 128 acres permanently protected by the Bear Yuba Land Trust in 2023.
Two Trails run it: the Wildflower Ridge Trail (0.9 miles, through open meadow and forested hillside) and the Rough & Ready Ditch Trail (1.0 mile, along the historic canal). Walk the connector between them and you've done about 2.6 miles.

Dogs are welcome on leash.
April and May are peak wildflower season — 100-plus native plant species across the meadows, heritage black oak groves through the woods. The rest of the year the trails are quiet, shaded, and almost always empty in the early morning.

It's the closest trail to the inn, and the easiest good walk in town. Step out the back, and you're on it.

The Seasons
Spring — wildflowers on the preserve, the garden waking up, mornings cool and bright.
Summer — long evenings around the fire pit, the koi pond shaded, concerts in town.
Fall — the oaks turning on the ridge, wine-harvest weekends, the best light of the year on the grounds.
Winter — quiet and still, the fire pit earning its keep, downtown lit up for Cornish Christmas a short walk away.
